The new Rilo Kiley album.

With "Under The Blacklight", Rilo Kiley have made the record that Punk Rock was supposed to prevent.

Seriously... Who asked for this? Third-rate George Harrison wah-wah guitar lines, Foreigner choruses, and the slickest, smoothest Fleetwood Mac production sheen imaginable. Track after track of bland pastiche and tunes that move "rock music" as far as possible from its black roots. Do people actually still do coke in quantity enough to make this seem like a good idea?

It's like a pop music sci-fi novelette gone horribly wrong, where society manages to give in to its worst impulses and create a bland and sterile world governed by 1970s soft-rock FM Radio, despite the generation of guitar-wielding spiky-haired british kids with bad teeth that sacrificed themselves to keep humanity from this fate.

Time for a new revolution.
